Christopher Saucedo

Christopher Saucedo’s sculpture and works on paper have been presented in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad, including one-person exhibitions at The Pensacola Art Museum, Florida; The Ormeau Baths Gallery, Belfast, Northern Ireland; The Contemporary Arts Center, New Orleans; The University of North Carolina at Greensboro; SternStudio Gallery, Vienna, Austria; The Leedy-Voulkos Gallery, Kansas City; The Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts, Birmingham, Alabama and The Arthur Roger Gallery, New Orleans, Louisiana.
His artwork has also been included in more than 100 group exhibitions, including shows at The National September 11th Memorial & Museum, NYC; The New Orleans Museum of Art; The Pera Museum, Istanbul, Turkey; Chateau La Napoule, La Napoule, France; The Dishman Art Museum, Beaumont, Texas and on Governor’s Island in NYC.
Saucedo is the recipient of numerous awards including grants from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, The Joan Mitchell Foundation and the New York Foundation for the Arts. Several years ago, he completed two works of public sculpture in New Orleans. “Flood Marker”, at the Milne Boys Home and “Equal Slices” on the campus of the University of New Orleans, and more recently ‘Boettner Park, You Are Here” is in the Lower Garden District of New Orleans. A monumental steel sculpture, titled “You Must be This Tall” is under construction for the St Claude Art District also in New Orleans.
Saucedo has presented lectures and workshops at universities and other institutions throughout the United States. He has also curated many exhibitions, mostly in New Orleans at The Good Children Gallery, of which he is a founding member. His work has been reviewed and featured in publications such as The New York Times, The London Times, Art News, Bomb Magazine, Art Papers, Sculpture Magazine and on NPR’s Morning Edition.
Saucedo received his BFA from New York’s School of Visual Arts and his MFA from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor. After attending the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, he did post-graduate work at the Queens University of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Saucedo retired as Research Professor and Chair of the Department of Fine Arts at the University of New Orleans where he ran the sculpture program for 20 years. Currently he is on the faculty at Adelphi University in New York. He continues to live and work in both New Orleans and Rockaway, New York.
