Harry Bertschmann

Born in Basel, Switzerland and living and working in New York City as a painter and graphic designer. He trained at the Kuntsgewerbeschule in Basel, Switzerland. His teachers were Armin Hoffman, Walter Bodmer, Emil Ruder,Theo Eble, Donald Brun and others. He apprenticed at Fritz Buehler’s Atelier in Basel working closely with Buehler and Walter Bosshart. Emphasis in graphic design techniques, concept aesthetics, and painting.
For centuries Basel, Switzerland has been an important center for art and culture. Today, it remains a force in the mainstream of the art world. Harry Bertschmann is a native of Basel but has lived and worked most of his life in New York City. He was trained extensively in graphics and painting in Switzerland by some of the foremost academic innovators of our time. Upon coming to New York, Bertschmann worked for years as a major package designer. He painted in his spare time, because painting has always been his driving passion. He lives in the Seaport area of Manhattan where he is now painting full time. His work is testimony to his professional insight and mastery of spatial relationships and his love of color, form, line, and space.
